‘Forest’: New Release from Olay Fay

Olay Fay is An African born Irish singer -songwriter with the chances of a big future. With a soulful vocal inspired by the Motown legends his Mum used to play him, and pop sensibilities likened to Tracy Chapman, Olay Fay has a compelling mix of styles and ideas at his disposal.

Upcoming single ‘Forest’ is a delicate look at the idea of not knowing where to turn when things go wrong, and typifies Fay’s sensitive approach to lyric writing mixed with a well-produced pop backing:

Having grown up in Lagos, Olay Fay moved to Ireland at 15, before coming to London more recently to pursue music

He takes lyrical inspiration from an unusual upbringing, moving from place to place and being the youngest of a huge family despite been the only Child between his Parents – he has an incredible 15 siblings, many of whom he only met at his father’s funeral. His are not tales you hear from your run of the mill acoustic bleeding heart…

It’s this background that makes for a host of colourful stories and inspirations – plenty of lyrical material for this excellent new singer songwriter to hone and shape into his new music.

‘Forest’ is released on 9th March

The Machismo’s rise from the ashes with an album of unreleased music on their own ‘Machismo’s records’ imprint!

The Machismo’s were voted in the NME as one of the ‘band’s to watch’ in the 90’s, and were given an NME single of the week for ‘My Narghile’, which was also playlisted on BBC Radio 1.

However, as is often the case outside influences led to a lengthy break from the industry. But now The Machismo’s are back in business ‘putting the punk back into indie’ with their brand new album, ‘Britpop Fucked My Wife’. The album has roots stretching back 18 years, before drugs and depression put a halt to one of Indie’s most promising trio’s. But now, reinvigorated and refreshed, The Machismo’s are back to their best with a planned future tour and more new music than ever before.

You can watch the video for ‘My Narghile’ here:

More experienced this time round, The Machismo’s are determined to make their way forward with their unique brand of in your face experimental indie pop, coupled with mellower songs of peace and positivity. The name itself is something of an ironic reaction to the masculinity inherent in the music business, and indeed the world, and the band want to challenge this kind of behaviour in the laudable belief that it is time women should take control of everything, to make the world a better place.

A true one-off in a music industry of copycats, The Machismo’s have overcome many personal battles and demons to return to the stage stronger and better than ever.

Single ‘My Narghile’ will be out Feb 23rd as a digital download, with album following March 3rd on 12″ vinyl and download, on Machismo’s Records.

Gavin Chappell-Bates releases debut EP ‘Black Holes’

There is much more than meets the eye with Cambridge based singer-songwriter Gavin Chappell-Bates. He is a philosophy graduate with a long standing love for music; this is reflected within the soulful and thoughtful songs he writes – challenging capitalism and confronting man’s inhumanity to man as well as discussing different themes of spirituality.

After performing for years in a band, Gavin has decided to embark on a solo career, performing songs that he has written himself. He has already built up a following around the local Cambridge music scene, performing at the likes of Secret Garden Party, Cambridge Rock Festival and Strawberry Fair. With fans of Gavin including David Eringa (Manic Street Preachers) who has given him some valuable advice with his music, also independent online music magazine ‘Get To The Front’ has raved about one of his tracks saying:

“I can hear this being a solid Radio One / Kerrang summer tune!”

However, it hasn’t been the easiest of journeys for Gavin. He has overcome years of severe depression and anxiety during his youth, only to be saved by his passion for music during those dark days. He is a vocal supporter of mental health awareness campaigns and he set up a music-based community group called ‘Soundwaves’ last year for this very reason.

The truly inspiring artist has been perfecting debut EP ‘Black Holes’ since he was a teenager; as he has matured, so has his music and style. Get ready for grunge and indie rock vibes with big guitars and epic sounds throughout the new EP, which is due for release on 23rd February 2015.

Noel and the Pandas choose a ‘Wondering Love’ for new single

2nd Single Press Image

Single taken from debut album ‘In the Art of Doom’ set for March 2nd release

An eclectic Indie rock band from Italy, Noel and the Pandas are exciting group add a variety of ideas to their rock roots. Their debut album ‘In the Art of Doom’ sees them on sparkling form, and the latest single is no exception. With great electronic touches and even a jazz feel thanks to a beautifully lonely sounding trumpet melody, the song’s gradual build then transforms it into a thumping anthem for the close, making it one of the very best on an excellent album.

You can hear the song, ‘Wondering Love’, here:

https://soundcloud.com/noelandpandas_official/wondering-love

Produced by guitarist Nicola Rosti, the debut album marked them out as the hottest new alternative rock sound to emerge from Italy, and that’s a reputation that is only likely to grow with singles like this.

The lyrics, written by band founder Noel, are a typically wistful reflection on his own history. His is a story of riches to rags, and after a promising career as a banker was ended overnight, he has picked himself back up from a life of destitution using nothing but his music and the experiences he has to write about. The power of music to move and transform those who make and hear it is often underestimated, but Noel is living proof that – with enough talent and determination – it’s possible to come back from the brink.

‘It all started when my first life ended and a brand new one was there to begin’ says Noel now. And, with the fresh sounds of Noel and the Pandas to show for it, it’s a new life with plenty of pathos and desire.

‘Wondering Love’ is released on March 2nd.
