Mavis Victory Project- Don’t go away

Mavis Victory project is made up of  four brothers and a childhood friend, the band’s unconventional line-up is the perfect match to their equally mould-breaking sound. Formed by the Ransom brothers – singer Michael, Phil on rhythm guitar, Ollie on bass, Chris on drums and Robert Rosser on guitar and keyboard – the whole collective is self-taught

Oozing seedy electronic loops and with echoing, swooping vocals, their sound is all dangerous street corners; distant sirens and the creeping underworld. Appropriately, their video is just as unhinged, inviting you into their world.

With influences including Arctic Monkeys; Kanye West and ScHoolboy Q, Mavis Victory Project is the musical equivalent of joining a cult – once you’re in, you wonder how you ever managed without. The video to “Don’t Go Away” is due for release on September 22nd and is just as arresting as their sound; with girls, gangs and clandestine weirdery likely to eat away at the inside of your head in a way you won’t be able to resist.

The Time Has Come for Zero Dinero – South West producer / rapper releases electrifying new EP!

Influenced by the golden era of hip hop, UK producer / rapper Zero Dinero comes through with this electrifying new EP The Time Has Come demonstrating some energetic flows, tight rhymes and some very impressive instrumentals.

Guest appearances include Kool Keith (aka Dr Octagon) and Blackalicous’s Gift of Gab, as well as famous scratch DJ, Sir BEANS OBE. The artwork and video meanwhile comes courtesy of Graham Dews (aka PARIS), the artist behind Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto cover. An impressive coup for this Swindon debutant.

A multi-talented musician, Zero Dinero (who’s given name is Nilkesh Mehta) handles all his own production. As well as rapping alongside hip hop legends he also plays guitar, sitar, tablas (Indian percussion), harmonium (Indian Keyboard), and has experience as a hip-hop/ funk/ reggae DJ starting out aged only 14.

Embracing his Indian roots, Zero weaves elements of Eastern philosophy into his lyricism. Some of the themes include meditation, Yoga and reading philosophy – which are uniquely presented for the first time in a Hip hop context.

The rapper’s life has been one of many challenges. Between 1999 and 2000 he travelled the world teaching English to UNICEF kids and learning Spanish fluently, something that has helped him to have such a clear outlook on life. Following a degree in International relations and Law he found himself in a corporate environment, which never sat well with him. He also recently had a serious health scare battling early Testicular Cancer.

Having overcome all this, Zero Dinero is now ready to fully pursue his true calling and has devoted himself to the career in hip hop that he always wanted. Due to his Indian background, his parents thought he should keep music strictly as a ‘hobby’ when he was younger, rather than pursue it as a ‘profession’. The Time Has Come sees him finally overcoming obstacles and following his passions.

With such endorsements from Hip hop royalty; Zero Dinero’s unique eastern influenced debut release will truly add a new dimension to both the UK and global Hip Hop scenes.

The Time Has Come is out May 21st

Prince William has his sights on the hip hop throne with new single ‘Million Ways’

Having performed at last year’s SXSW festival, Houston rapper Prince William is an exciting new hip hop underdog on the rise.

His latest single ‘Million Ways’ sees him showing off his adept flow and wordplay skills. It centres lyrically around pushing one’s talents in order to be successful.

Stream the single here on Soundcloud:

https://soundcloud.com/glavish/million-ways

Written over a year ago, the rapper explains the inspiration behind it: ‘I was working the graveyard shift at a gas station one night (Winter ’14) and decided to play the instrumental on the loud speaker since I was the only one there. I must’ve played the instrumental 100 times that night and then as I was mopping the floor, the flow and the hook just naturally hit me and I recorded it on my next off day.’

Prince William’s inspiring self-confidence and rhymes are likely to appeal to fans of artists like Jay-Z, Childish Gambino and J Cole.

A highly self-motivated artist, Prince William has started a music career through his own determination and grit, setting up his very own record label Lavish Living Ent.

He explains the source of his drive: ‘When I decided to start making music, I called lots of old friends from Elementary all the way to High school and they all (exaggerated with “all” but pretty damn close) dismissed me and that helped me develop my “self-inspiring” attitude and I also learned to depend on myself much more than the average person.’

Prince William has always seen himself as an underdog. Upon entering a contest for indie rappers in 2013 led by local hip hop legend OG Ron C, the rap icon came up on stage and said “I don’t wanna hear music about your problems, if I wanted to hear about problems I would’ve stayed home and looked at bills. This is not the rap game, I want to see girls shake their asses and music I can dance to.”

Knowing from the start that he was different to the other rappers in the competition and that this statement was subliminally aimed at him, Prince William didn’t let it get in the way of his vision, having since proved OG wrong by performing at SXSW and scoring radio airplay from Kiss FM phoenix and an interview with KTSU Houston.

He hopes to continue onwards and upwards continuing to push his own record label and garner a worldwide fanbase.

Shiny new soul/trap from Kaytranada and Anderson. Paak

Electronic producer Kaytranada has teamed up with soul singer/rapper Anderson. Paak resulting in this insane track. Rapping in a unique lazy flow, Paak’s chilled tone perfectly matches the trippy trap laid down by Kaytranada. This is followed by a glorious beat change at the three minute mark, Paak exchanging spitting for soulful singing over some shimmering keys. The duo are sounding deadly here.

‘Glowed Up’ is set to appear on Kaytranada’s upcoming album 99.9%.

Master of Future Roots, Natty, is back with new album

Following his Top 20 debut album, ‘Man Like I’, Natty is back with his highly anticipated second album ‘Release The Fear’, a future-roots, concept album that takes us on a journey through love, redemption, self-identity and unity.

Described by the Telegraph as a “soul-reggae crossover sensation” Natty is an artist who brings the revolutionary spirit of the 60s and 70s into current times. The Sunday Times praised his lyrics as “sharply focused” and his songs as “free from production trickery”. Seven years in the making, Release The Fear reflects Natty’s spiritual and sonic progression, bringing forward cosmic and mindful energies through his unmistakable delivery.

The first single of the album, ‘I’m Alive’, is a catchy proclamation of faith and a declaration of thanks for new times and new energies. It is accompanied by an evocative and visually stimulating animated video.

Other inspiring songs include ‘Street lights’, a fast paced, high energy beat that dares us to reconnect with each other and the space around us, as well as ‘Stand up in Love’ which calls for a truly unifying love that transcends conventional boundaries.

Sonically, ‘Release The Fear’ is genre straddling whilst retaining an authentic, roots/soul/ Afrocentric identity,  amalgamating into what Natty describes as “future roots”. Recorded live, the album has a unique sound with tracks ranging from the delicate and hypnotic ‘Rainclouds’ to the militant and arousing ‘Change’ featuring Busy Signal and Albarosie.

Since parting with his major label, Natty has been hard at work building his own unique brand, independently releasing an award-winning EP, set up his record label Vibes & Pressure and a monthly club night by the same name.

Still very active on the live music circuit, the North Londoner has hit the stages of SWSW, Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, Reading & Leeds and the BBC Electric Proms. Natty has also toured the USA supporting Ziggy Marley and travelled to Zimbabwe, Brazil, Japan and Europe performing for local crowds.

Previously receiving the support from the likes of BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, ITV, MTV, Later with Jools Holland amongst others, Natty is excited to embark on his new project and share his message of love with the rest of the world.

The album ‘Release The Fear’ is out on 18th March 2016.

Rapper Lively is shaking up UK Hip Hop Scene with new single

Lively is a rapper who has entered the hip hop arena in the most proficient way being able to collaborate with some big names in the industry at this point of his career.

Taking his father’s  second cancer diagnosis in 2012 as a wake-up call the rapper has decided to truly devote himself to his music  which has paid off only very shortly afterwards. A trip to the US last year gave him the opportunity to record with one of the most influential hip hop producers of the past 20 years, Scott Storch who is widely known for having produced hit records for Beyonce, 50 Cent, Eminem, Busta Rhymes , Rick Ross, Chris Brown and Tyga amongst others. Next to Storch the rapper has worked with UK rapper Smiler TPM as well as MAC and G-Man of So Solid Crew and also Bizarre from the Detroit based rap group D-12. His first single release ‘Bad Influence’, is a solid proof for his quickly acquired professionalism.

The song is a testament to his way of life, affirming that he’s “moving in the fast lane, no slow ride.” No matter if people believe he’s a “bad influence on them”, Lively is bursting with determination and energy and there’s no going back.

Having built a foundation consisting of musical talent, dedication and hard work Lively has managed to get his first EP release in April 2015 into the best selling rap/ hip hop pre-orders on itunes without the help of any labels or major promotion.

001

His musical influences vary across the hip hop sphere as well as any other genres he comes across. Lively isn’t interested in copying other artists, he takes his inspiration mainly from everyday life experiences and his own imagination. The rapper, who has both Scottish and Indian roots, has shown perseverance in the ambition to mature his sound and an eagerness to learn from past mistakes. He took part in a rap battle at Jumpoff TV where he, in his own words, “failed epically” and got beaten by another contestant, who got into the season’s finals. But Lively decided to use his defeat in a positive way, cleaned up his act and is now back stronger than before: “The loss made me go back to the drawing board quite literally – new style, new sound, better punch lines.”  With an attitude like this there’s no doubt Lively will be here to stay for some time to come.

The single ‘Bad Influence’ is out on 13th February 2016.
